The back story

Inspiration

The inspiration behind our establishment is based on the realization of a lack of exposure to careers within the aviation industry as well as a lack of support in joining and navigating the aviation industry in Africa as a black woman. A unique challenge to African girls is the lack of exposure to careers in aviation and those that are fortunate enough to be exposed lack funding, support and navigation in starting their the mainstream careers such as a pilot, engineer or flight attendant’ offering mentorship and support for aspiring professionals Globally women make up only 4% as pilots, 3% as engineers and 3% in top leadership positions within aviation. These statistics are global, yet alone Africa and Kenya where numbers are less. careers. We also took note that not many girls know of the different careers that aviation has to offer apart from the mainstream careers such as a pilot, flight attendant or engineer.

Awareness & support

As GIAA we saw a need to inform and raise awareness of the different careers within aviation such as air traffic controllers, flight dispatcher, airport managers, ground handlers, safety officers, flight turn around coordinators and so much more. We also saw a gap in supporting young African female professionals who are already in the sector and require support within the industry.

Mentorship & sisterhood

We aim to mentor and assist young girls starting their aviation careers and help them navigate through the industry. Such as which flight schools to attend, available jobs in the market, how to build a professional portfolio etc. At GIAA we are big on advocacy, mentorship and sisterhood, our backbone being Jesus Christ that we believe has placed us for such a time as this to be of impact to our generation through the aviation industry (Esther 4:14).
